If you’ve got time to shop, then the Bluegrass is ready with all you can handle in the way of diverse shopping opportunities. Whether you enjoy indoor malls, unique shopping areas, quaint family-owned stores, or downtown shops, the variety of shopping environments is certainly overwhelming. People come from miles around to see what the Bluegrass has to offer.
Lexington is home to one of the state’s largest malls, Fayette Mall (Nicholasville Road), which features 120 stores and eateries, as well as a recent addition called The Plaza, which contains several new department stores, restaurants, and a movie theater. Meanwhile, Kentucky’s largest shopping, convention and sports arena complex is located at The Shops at Lexington Center. One block from Lexington Center across West Main Street is Victorian Square, which features a variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
Other area malls to hit include Turfland Mall (Harrodsburg Road), The Mall at Lexington Green (Nicholasville Road), and Lansdowne Shopping Center (Tates Creek Road). The many shops and restaurants at Hamburg Pavilion (I-75 & Man O’War) provide hundreds of options, while the Factory Stores of America near Georgetown are only a short drive to the north.
Also in Lexington, you’ll find unique shopping areas (similar to districts), such as Clay Avenue, Chevy Chase Village, the Greentree section of Short Street, North Limestone, Old Vine Street, as well as South Limestone near the University of Kentucky campus. Regionally, you’ll find the small-town shopping atmosphere in downtown areas like Georgetown, Midway, Winchester, Richmond, Berea, Paris, and Versailles.
If you’re looking to shop in the Bluegrass, come with a lot of energy and plenty of space in your vehicle, because you certainly won’t leave empty-handed.
