If your interests include education, networking and community service, these programs provide an exceptional way to learn about the Bluegrass region, make connections, and further one’s participation in making our area a great place to live. Each is an intensive program that covers our city or region. They include Leadership Lexington (local), Leadership Central (regional), Executive Briefing (upper management) and Leadership Lexington Youth program (all Lexington schools).
Leadership Central Kentucky: A 10-month program that creates awareness and understanding of how each county's actions affect the others. You must live and/or work in one of these counties to participate, Bourbon, Clark, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Madison, Scott and Woodford Counties. A long-term perspective is critical to our region's success and class members identify key trends, issues and opportunities in each
of the eight communities. Applications are available the middle of April. Class selection is announced in July. Orientation begins in August and participants meet once a month in one of the counties with a graduation in May.
Leadership Lexington: Leadership Lexington has been around since 1979. With just over 1200 graduates, this 11-month program provides participants the opportunity to better understand our community by meeting with and learning from today’s community leaders. Applications are available the middle of April for the class that begins in mid-August. Covering one topic a month, which includes Education, Growth and Preservation,
Economic Development and Workforce Development, Public Safety, Diversity, Government, Arts and Quality of Life, Media, Health and Human Services, and Leadership Development, the class celebrates their educational experience and newly developed friendships with a graduation in June.
Leadership Lexington Youth: Leadership Lexington Youth program is an educational program that provides a rare opportunity for 11th grade students enrolled in Fayette County Public Schools to interact with community leaders, talk about issues, careers, business and post-secondary institutions. Throughout the program, students will participate in interactive exercises providing real life hands on experience. The program will motivate the students
to think seriously about the role they would like to play and the difference they can make in the Lexington community.
Executive Briefing: The Briefing is an information-packed two-day overview of Lexington for executives and spouses new to the Lexington community. It is structured as a mini-Leadership Lexington program for the busy executive; to broaden participants’ knowledge of Lexington, informing them about local issues and challenges; to acquaint them with local leaders and decision-makers, as well as formal and informal decision-making
channels in which they operate; to provide camaraderie and a feeling of connectivity to Lexington and the Bluegrass area among the participants; and to challenge participants to become involved in community affairs. The program is held in mid-October each year.
